NEW HAVEN >> Woodland’s girls indoor track and field team won its fifth-consecutive NVL Championship Monday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
Derby’s Kiley Rodriguez was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete, leading the Raiders with victories in the 1,600-meter run (in 5:43.59) and the 3,200-meter run (in 12:35.41, ahead of teammate Nicole Rizzo).
Rodriguez was also a part of the team’s winning 4×800-meter relay team, which included Rizzo, Sara Gerkens and Rachel Fleischer. They won in 10:54.03.
Derby’s girls also won the 1600 sprint medley in 4:28.16. The team included Amber Schlemmer, Ashleigh Schlemmer, Rachel Fleischer, and Prizio.

Oxford’s Kelly Ward also won two events, taking the long jump (15-9.75) and high jump (5-4).
On the boys side, Naugatuck’s Mark Zamani won three events to win the meet’s Most Outstanding Male Athlete by sweeping the distance events. He won the 3,200-meter run in 10:20.53, the 1600 in 4:44.07 and the 1000 in 2:44.47.
Derby’s championship team was led by Ricky Bartone’s winning, 47-foot-1 toss in the shot put and Josh Vega’s 8.27 time in the 55-meter hurdles.
Woodland’s Tom Smith won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.73 seconds and the high jump with a height of 5-10.
